Making a Plain Ballet Tutu Become Fabulous!

Do you want to take your plain tutu for your little girl and bring if from drab to fab? It is really much easier than you think. Hopefully you will find some good ideas here that will make you want to make a one of a kind tutu for your little ballerina.

First, you are going to start off with a basic tutu. You can make a basic tutu pretty easily or purchase one for super cheap. Lets assume you buy a basic tutu. Now, pick your girls favorite color to wear to dance class. Maybe light pink is the color you would choose. Now, the fun starts.

What does your little girl like? Flowers, pompoms? Some favorite decorated tutus have flowers with acrylic crystals in the middle of them attached to the tutu. First, you are going to remove the bow, if any at the front of the tutu.

Step 2 is to get the flower petals you want to use. Arrange them in the order you like to make a flower. Then, you are going to glue or sew all of the petals together in this step. Lastly, put an acrylic rhinestone in the center to give it some bling. Now, the flower is ready. You can put this right in the middle of the tutu where the bow went to give the tutus some pizzaz. You are done with this modification of a tutu if you want. Or, you can keep going. If you want to add more flowers to the bottom of the tutu, it is suggested that you get some smaller flowers than the pretty original one you put in the center of the tutu. Then, glue the small flowers all around the tutu bottom staggering them so they don't quite look too uniform.

If you want to use pompoms you would go about it exactly the same way. Gluing a pompon where the bow went, and then throughout the actual base of the tutu to get the look you desire.

Now that you have learned the basic steps to decorating a ballet tutu, you can take it a bit further. If your child is in dance class, each month make a new tutu. This can be done relatively cheap too! You can make a tutu to match the seasons. Get an orange tutu for Halloween and go to the dollar store and look for some spiders, etc. Glue those on and that tutu is sure to be a huge hit. Keep the same idea going for other holidays and watch, the moms will want to start making cute, themed tutus with you!
